Named: the results, and the new guys!

Been a while.

Well, the results are in for Hex Heroes 6 to 10 (and have been for a few days!) and the winning names are...

Good choices, all.

Well, that means that it's time for the next batch. Feast your eyes, my pretties!

You may have missed it, but the last four Hex Heroes were all designed live on Livestream, which is something that's likely to continue. At the moment, it's looking like possibly being a weekly live broadcast of Hex Heroes design sessions. If you've been curious as to how they're done, you can tune in. For some reason, the channel has disappeared since the broadcast, but as soon as this is rectified, the link will go up here for anyone who's interested.

So what now? Well, you could always suggest some names for the guys who so far have remained nameless. Numbers 11 onward, to be precise.

In other news, there's now an official Jam-Wah merchandise page at Cafepress. This might (in all likelihood, will) change, but for now you can buy the first t-shirt 'Carelessness Causes Fire' right here.

More soon! Keep those names coming!

Voting: a 3-day blitz!

It's a beautiful, sunny day (despite the huge volcanic ash cloud hovering over most of Europe) and what better way to spend two minutes of it than by choosing your favourite name for the latest 5 Hex Heroes in the polls?

If you're a UK citizen, think of this as practice for the forthcoming elections. Or not.

At the top of the blog are the five you can vote on, each handily numbered (backwards, due to Flickr being annoying). The polls are in the sidebar to the right of this gibberish.

You have three days before the end of all things. Tell your friends!

The results!

Well, democracy gets you tied results!

While we have three clear winners:

...there were two ties. Rather than extend the voting period or choose a name myself, thereby rendering the voting pointless, a call was put out to people on Twitter. The decision came from Chris Lewis (he volunteered to help out earlier) and is therefore still valid. Yay!

The winners are FELIZ-4 and ZANGRAST!

Next round of voting will begin once everyone catches their collective breath. Just think, there are thirty-five more characters to vote on. If anybody can come up with a better, fairer and quicker way of deciding the names, speak now...

Voting week 1

You may have noticed 5 polls have appeared on the right of this blog. Yep, that means that you can vote for the first five Hex Heroes' names!

To avoid having to post the relevant images twice, the characters are numbered. If the general concensus is that the images should be back at the top of the blog for easy access, then that'll be what we do. As it stands, avoiding picture overload is the plan.

As this polling/voting system has moved from DeviantART to this blog, who knows how many votes will come in? There may be a drop-off, there may be a rise. The best way to make this move worthwhile is for word of mouth to spread, so don't forget to tell someone to get involved.

Thanks for the support so far!

Hex Heroes: the halfway mark

On February 28th, the first of the Hex Heroes debuted on DeviantART. He later became known as Prong.

Since that date, there have been twenty-nine more. Eighteen of them have names. All in all, there have been 231 name suggestions between 28 of the characters. That's a humbling statistic, particularly when there's no association with an established intellectual property. Many thanks go out to everyone who's contributed so far.

There's still a way to go, of course. At this rate, the Hex Heroes will reach number sixty sometime around mid-April. Maybe earlier. Then, the whole gang will be present and correct, perhaps with a few enhancements here and there, in the form of a poster. This poster is already being prepped and laid out. The logo is being designed, and will be posted here as the development goes ahead.

The major part of this process is the naming and voting aspect. While, ideally, each character should have around ten name suggestions before going to the vote, it would be great to make at least eight. Despite the best efforts of all involved, the numbers are going down slightly. Not naming, but voting. That's the easy part, isn't it?!

Those of you would like to see this project finished on time, and hopefully would consider purchasing a copy of the poster and/or other merchandise that will be announced soon, please spread the word! When the polls go live at this very site, they'll have a strict deadline and there has to be a winner. The more votes we get, the more likely it is that a tie will be avoided.

And here's the art. Numbers 9 and 10 (which, confusingly, are the 29th and 30th in total. Keep up!)
